This is a NEW 20" ISO 406 rear wheel with a Sturmey-Archer X-RF8(w) 8sp internally geared hub intended for use with a TerraTrike tadpole recumbent trike. Though built for recumbent trike usage, you could also use it on a two wheeled recumbent or folding bike if you like.
Tadpole recumbent trikes experience higher side loads than bikes, so they need to be robustly constructed. This wheel has 36 spokes laced three cross into brass nipples. I cannot guarantee it, but I think the wheel was built for TerraTrike by Velocity in Grand Rapids Michigan. Velocity knows how to build a high-quality wheel.
Please note well: you will need to get an 8 speed shifter and cable to use this wheel. Sturmey Archer offers a grip-shift style shifter intended for use with the 8 speed hub. I think a thumb shifter is also available.
